KDP Keyword Packer
Paste your keyword ideas and get them fitted into the keyword boxes, with repeated words removed. Works for KDP's seven boxes and for Etsy tags.
Keyword boxes
No wasted characters
Repeated words, title words and filler words are removed, and phrases are fitted together so each box is as full as it can be.
You see every change
Nothing is silently deleted. The notes list every removed or unplaced word, so you stay in control of what goes in.
Private
Your keyword list never leaves your browser. There is no account and nothing is stored.
How to use it
- Write or paste your keyword phrases, one per line or separated by commas.
- Paste your title, subtitle and category words into "Already in your title, subtitle or categories" so those words are not repeated.
- Copy each box into the matching keyword field when you publish, or press Copy all.
Settings when the page opens: the KDP preset (7 boxes of 50 characters), filler words removed, plurals kept as separate words, and the most words fitted rather than your order. Change any of them in the options.
Where the limits come from
Seven boxes of 50 characters is the structure described by publishing guides such asVappingo's explainer of the seven KDP fields, and the 13 tags of 20 characters for Etsy matches what Etsy sellers commonly report. These are secondary sources, so confirm the numbers in the platform's own help pages (KDP help, Etsy help). They can change, which is why the limits here are editable. SwiftKit is not affiliated with Amazon, KDP or Etsy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a keyword packer do?โผ
When you publish a book on KDP there are seven hidden keyword boxes, and each box holds a limited number of characters (50, according to the guidance most publishers follow). The packer takes your long list of search phrases and fits them into the boxes so that as many useful words as possible fit. It drops repeated words and words already in your title, because those use up space without adding anything.
Why remove repeated words?โผ
Publishing guides commonly advise that each word needs to appear only once across the seven boxes, because the search index works with words rather than their position (this is advice from guides such as Vappingo's, not a published Amazon rule). If 'large print word search' is in one box and 'word search for seniors' in another, the second 'word search' adds nothing. Removing it frees characters for new words. The packer shows you exactly which words it removed, so you can check it agrees with you.
Do I need to repeat words from my title?โผ
Publishing guides generally advise not to, because the title and subtitle are indexed separately (again, guidance rather than an Amazon rule). Paste your title, subtitle and category words into the 'Already in your title, subtitle or categories' box and the packer leaves those words out of the keyword boxes.
Should the keywords be separated by commas?โผ
The common advice, for example in Vappingo's guide to the seven KDP fields, is to use spaces only. The packer writes each box with single spaces between words, so no characters are wasted on commas. You can paste your list with commas, semicolons or line breaks between the phrases. The packer understands all three.
What is the difference between the KDP and Etsy modes?โผ
KDP keywords are read word by word, so the packer packs individual words into the boxes. Etsy tags work differently: each tag is a whole phrase (Etsy allows 13 tags of up to 20 characters each, according to the sellers' guidance), so in Etsy mode each phrase stays together as one tag, and the tool tells you which phrases are too long, duplicated or surplus.
Are the limits (7 boxes of 50, 13 tags of 20) official?โผ
They match what publishers and sellers commonly report, but platforms change their rules. That's why the number of boxes and the size of each box are editable: choose Custom if a limit changes. Always check KDP's and Etsy's own help pages before you rely on a number.
Which words should I avoid?โผ
Marketplaces commonly discourage words such as 'bestseller', 'free', 'new', 'sale', brand names and other authors' names. The packer warns you when it sees any of these words or phrases: bestseller, best seller, best selling, free, new, sale, discount, cheap, kindle unlimited, amazon, #1 and number one. The list is a prompt, not a complete rule set. The platform's own guidelines are the rule.
Does it find keywords for me?โผ
No. It only arranges the keywords you give it. Finding good phrases, for example from the search suggestions on a retail site, is a separate job. Nothing is sent anywhere: your list stays in your browser.
