Fixes PDF and email text
Text copied from a PDF is chopped into short lines. Keep-paragraphs mode stitches each paragraph back together without merging them all into one block.
More than just a space
Replace each break with a space, nothing, a comma, or your own separator. A list with one item per line becomes a comma-separated line in one step.
Private by design
Everything happens in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, so confidential drafts and client documents stay on your device.
How to remove line breaks
- Paste your text into the left box, or open a .txt file.
- Choose All line breaks for one continuous line, or Keep paragraphs to preserve the gaps between paragraphs.
- Pick what replaces each break: a space, nothing, a comma, or your own text.
- Copy the result, or download it as a text file.
Need to change capitalisation as well? Use thecase converter and text cleaner. To sort or de-duplicate the lines instead of joining them, try theline sorter, or count what you end up with in the word counter.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove line breaks from text?โผ
Paste your text into the box on the left. The result appears on the right straight away, with every line break replaced by a single space. Press Copy, or download it as a .txt file. You can change what replaces each break (a space, nothing, a comma, or your own text) using the options above the boxes.
Why does text copied from a PDF or email have line breaks in the middle of sentences?โผ
PDFs and many emails wrap each line to fit the page width by ending it with a hard line break. When you copy the text, those breaks come along and your sentences end up chopped into short lines. Choose 'Keep paragraphs' to join the lines inside each paragraph while keeping the gaps between paragraphs. If a word was split across two lines with a hyphen, tick 'Rejoin hyphenated words'.
What is the difference between a line break and a paragraph break?โผ
A line break ends a line and starts the next one directly below. A paragraph break is usually two line breaks in a row, which leaves a blank line. 'Remove all line breaks' turns everything into one continuous line. 'Keep paragraphs' removes the single line breaks inside paragraphs and keeps the blank lines between them.
Can I turn a list into a comma-separated line?โผ
Yes. Paste the list with one item per line and set 'Replace each break with' to Comma. Each line break becomes a comma and a space, so 'apple, banana, cherry' replaces three separate lines. This is handy for pasting lists into search boxes, spreadsheets or code.
Does this work with Windows, Mac and Linux line endings?โผ
Yes. Windows uses two characters to end a line (carriage return plus line feed), Linux and modern Macs use one (line feed), and very old Macs use a carriage return alone. All of them are recognised, along with the Unicode line and paragraph separators that sometimes appear in text copied from web pages and word processors.
How do I remove line breaks inside an Excel cell?โผ
Copy the cell, paste it into the box here, and the line breaks inside it are removed. Excel often wraps copied multi-line cells in quotation marks, so you may want to delete those afterwards. Pasting the cleaned text back into the cell gives you one continuous line.
Is my text private?โผ
Yes. The conversion happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or load is uploaded, stored or sent anywhere, so it is safe to use with confidential drafts, contracts and client text.
