Online Stopwatch

A precise stopwatch with laps, fastest and slowest highlights, and export. It keeps running if you refresh.

00:00.00

Ready

Shortcuts: Space start or stop, L lap, R reset, Esc leave full screen.

Hundredths of a second

Time is read from your device's clock rather than counted in steps, so it does not drift or slow down when the tab is busy.

Laps that tell you something

Every lap shows its own time and the running total, with your fastest and slowest laps marked. Copy them or download a CSV for a spreadsheet.

Survives a refresh

If you refresh by accident, or your phone's browser reclaims the tab, a running stopwatch keeps the right time and your laps. Nothing is sent anywhere.

How to use the online stopwatch

  1. Press Start (or hit the space bar) to begin timing.
  2. Press Lap to record a time without stopping the clock.
  3. Press Stop to pause, then Start to resume or Reset to clear.
  4. Use the full-screen button to show big digits to a class, a team or a room.
  5. Copy the laps or download a CSV when you are done.

Useful for running, swimming and cycling intervals, speeches, experiments and timing tasks. If you need to count down instead of up, use theonline timer. To measure the gap between two dates, try the date calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the stopwatch and record laps?โ–ผ

Press Start to begin. While it runs, press Lap each time you want to mark a time, for example at the end of each circuit of a track. Press Stop to pause and Start again to resume, and Reset to clear everything. Each lap shows both the lap time (how long that lap took) and the total time so far.

What is the difference between a lap time and a split time?โ–ผ

A lap time is how long one lap took, measured from the previous lap to this one. A split (or total) time is the running total since you pressed Start. If laps take 1:00, 1:10 and 0:55, the splits are 1:00, 2:10 and 3:05. Both are shown side by side in the table.

How accurate is this online stopwatch?โ–ผ

It reads your device's clock to the millisecond and displays hundredths of a second. Accuracy in practice is limited by your screen refresh and how quickly you tap, which is usually a few hundredths of a second. It does not drift if the tab is in the background, because elapsed time is calculated from the clock rather than counted in steps.

Does it keep running if I refresh the page or my phone closes the tab?โ–ผ

Yes. A running stopwatch and its laps are saved on your own device, so if you refresh the page, or the browser reclaims the tab, it picks up with the correct elapsed time. Closing the stopwatch with Reset clears the saved data.

Can I export my lap times?โ–ผ

Yes. Use 'Copy laps' to paste them into a message or spreadsheet, or 'Download CSV' for a file you can open in Excel or Google Sheets. The CSV includes the lap time, the total time and the raw milliseconds.

How do the fastest and slowest laps get highlighted?โ–ผ

Once you have recorded three or more laps, the quickest lap is shown in green and the slowest in red, so you can see at a glance how your pace varied.

Does this stopwatch need an account or send my data anywhere?โ–ผ

No account and nothing is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser, and the only thing stored is the running state on your own device so a refresh does not lose your time.
